About Us

Our Story & Rich Tradition

Our story begins simply, the way many meaningful stories do—with two people meeting in college in New York. My husband came from Albania, carrying with him a deep-rooted food culture shaped by land, tradition, and generations before him. I was born and raised in America, surrounded by convenience, abundance, and modern food systems that—at the time—I didn’t think twice about.

Everything began to change during my senior trip abroad. Traveling through Italy and Greece, island by island, I noticed something that stayed with me long after the trip ended: the food felt alive. Vegetables were vibrant, bread was satisfying without feeling heavy, olive oil was fragrant and smooth, and meals left me feeling nourished rather than sluggish.

Later, I spent a year living in my husband’s hometown in Albania—and that’s when the contrast became undeniable. I ate more, yet I lost weight. The salt didn’t cause swelling. The wheat flour didn’t inflame my body or trigger the sensitivities I had grown used to. The honey tasted like something entirely new—pure, floral, and deeply comforting. And for the first time in my life, I genuinely fell in love with olive oil—not as an ingredient, but as a food in its own right.

It wasn’t a diet. It was a way of life.

At first, we thought about centering our store solely around Balkan foods. But the more we reflected—on history, family, and the table—the more it became clear that Albanian and Greek cultures are deeply intertwined. Historically, before borders and civil conflicts reshaped the region, Albanians and Greeks lived as neighboring peoples with shared land, shared traditions, and remarkably similar foodways. The Mediterranean spirit flows through both cultures—seen in how food is grown, prepared, and honored.

The ingredients are familiar on both sides of the border. The methods are the same. The philosophy is the same: food should sustain the body, respect the land, and bring people together.

That realization shaped everything.

We created this store not just to sell groceries, but to share something deeply personal—with our family, our friends, and our community here in the United States. To share freshness. To share balance. To share the quiet wisdom of generations who understood that food is not meant to harm the body, but to heal and support it.

Where Tradition Meets Freshness

Welcome to a grocery experience inspired by the timeless food traditions of the Mediterranean region, including the Balkans—where meals are built from the ground up with fresh vegetables, naturally raised proteins, and minimally processed staples.

Our selection reflects a way of eating that values quality over quantity, wholesome over artificial, and tradition over convenience. From sun-ripened produce and cultured dairy to cold-pressed olive oils, natural salts, stone-milled flours, and thoughtfully preserved foods, every item is chosen with care and intention.

Mediterranean and Balkan food cultures have long celebrated simplicity—ingredients grown close to home, harvested at peak freshness, and prepared in ways that preserve both nutrients and flavor. This approach has nourished generations, contributing to strong bodies, vibrant communities, and long, healthy lives.

When you shop here, you’re not just buying groceries—you’re reconnecting with a way of eating that honors the land, respects the body, and brings food back to what it was always meant to be: fresh, honest, and life-giving.
